Elder George Samuel Flippen, 73, of 231 Melton Road, Elkin, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012, in Dobson. He was born October 22, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Roy and Oma Tolbert Flippen. He retired from Perry Manufacturing and was an elder of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hillsville, VA, for over 45 years and State Road Primitive Baptist Church for 25 years. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kathy Flippen of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Ashley Flippen of Mount Airy and Diana Flippen and her fiancé, Chad Hiatt, of Mount Airy; two step-daughters and their husbands, Diane and Russell Choate of Glade Valley and Debbie and Larry Davis of Laurel Springs; a step-son, Elder Clifford Alan and Rhonda Church of Grassy Creek; many step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, John Leonard and Ernie Flippen of Athens, GA. In addition to his parents, Elder Flippen passed away along with his wife, Jonsie Pruitt Flippen, on Friday, August 31, 2012, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Thornburg Flippen. The funeral service for Elder Flippen will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Elder Jessie Hutchens, Elder Bobby Daughtry, Elder Luray Smith, Elder Paul Clark, and Elder Alan Church officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
