Elder Kenneth Delane Hopkins, age 69 of Stuart, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home after battling pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 23, 1942 in Mayodan, North Carolina to the late Ernest Murry and Hallie Watson Hopkins. Elder Hopkins had been a pastor for over 25 years, serving at Indian Valley, Flower Gap, Thomas Grove and Mayodan Primitive Baptist Churches; was a local businessman, had served on the Board of Directors for the local hospital and with the Patrick County Board of Supervisors.
Elder Hopkins is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marie Evans Hopkins of the home; one son, Mark Jefferson Hopkins and wife, Susan of Westminster, Maryland; four daughters, Rhonda Denise Ratliff and husband, David of Patrick Springs, Pamela Laine Kiel and husband, Dave of Hickory, North Carolina, Amy Marie Burnette and husband, Bob of Patrick Springs and Melanie Susan Budding and husband, Dan of Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren, Michael Ratliff, Meredith Ratliff, Elizabeth Hopkins, Collin Hopkins, Sydnee Burnette, Jarrod Burnette and Lucas Kiel; and five brothers, Z. Lowell Hopkins and Elwood Hopkins, both of Meadows of Dan, Don Hopkins and Clyde Hopkins, both of Spencer and Paul Hopkins of Liberty, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Elder Hopkins will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Tommy Pegram officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Valley Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Willis. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
