Elder Walter David Scales

           Elder Walter David Scales was born on March 26, 1935 to the late Elder Levi and Lillie Ann Scales in Sandy Ridge, NC.  Elder Scales worked at Bassett Furniture and retired from JP Stevens, where he was employed for 35 years.  He was also a farmer for many years, planting gardens, raising hogs and chickens, and cropping tobacco.  He joined Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church in 1975.  He was ordained as a Deacon on April 1, 1978 and ordained as a Preacher on October 10, 1987 where he preached the word of God faithfully for 32 years.  He served and Pastored three churches, Francis Stand Primitive Baptist Church, Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church, and Ridgeway Primitive Baptist Church.  Elder Scales was a Faithful Preacher, Pastor, and Mentor until the very end and we truly believe that His Master said to him, “Well done, My good and Faithful Servant!” Matthew 25:21.

            He was united in marriage to the late Brenda Carolyn Scales in June of 1960 where he said her beauty, grace, and HAIR was like nothing he had ever seen.  There was not a day that went by that he didn’t think and speak of her.  His deep love for her remained even after her death!  Her sunset was December 17, 1996.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Scales.

            Elder Scales was known and loved by many.  He didn’t have a respect of person…He loved everyone.  He was such a gentle giant with a soft kind heart.  He walked, talked, and breathed the word of God.  He was the epitome of what a man and Man of God should be!

            He leaves to cherish his memory, Jackie Scales of Martinsville, Walter Scales of Huntsville, AL, James Scales of the home; David Scales (Tina) of Nashville, TN, Kay Higgins (Thomas) of Eden, NC, Jerald Scales of Mt. Airy, NC, Sallie Scales of Critz, Maurice Wright of Danville, Renae Scales (Xavier Almazo) of Christiansburg, Pierre Scales of the home; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three brothers, Deacon Obediah Scales of Sandy Ridge, NC, Elder Joe Scales of Sandy Ridge, NC, Deacon Vester Scales of Martinsville; two sisters, Jill Thomas of Sandy Ridge, NC, Lillie Aldean Scales of Sandy Ridge, NC; three sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives, church members, and friends.

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Joe Scales officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tatum Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  A wake will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
