Mr. Edgar Eldridge Worrell ‘Big Un’, as many knew him, 82, of Mount Airy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 6th, 2020 surrounded by family. Eldridge was born October 8, 1938 in Carroll County and was a faithful member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Lowgap. Anyone who knew him knew he was a diehard Union and Ford man, he loved his cowboy movies, classic country and bluegrass music and hanging out with his number one buddy, his grandson Dalton. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Andy Bowman of Mount Airy, and Tonya and Robert Carpenter of Dobson; Tabitha Worrell and Cecelia Worrell, both of Virginia; three sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Carla Smith of Troutville, VA, Joey Smith of Cana, VA, and Shannon Smith of Ararat; his grandchildren Dalton, Kasey, Corey, Christian, Jessica, Sheridan, Calvin, Marijo, Leland, Coleman, Bryant, Gabriel, and Kaley; many great-grandchildren; and special friend and companion Ruby Goad. Mr. Worrell was preceded in death by his wife Helen Smith Worrell; his son Darren Worrell; parents Edgar and Opal Worrell; and three brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be held in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel on Friday December 11, 2020 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Family Cemetery in Dugspur, VA. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Friday from 1:00 – 2:00PM. Mr. Worrell will lie-in-state at the funeral home from Wednesday until time for the service on Friday. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Worrell family.
