Mrs. Elfrey Hiatt Jackson, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Advance. Mrs. Jackson was born April 30, 1913, in Surry County, to the late Jesse Lee and Jeanette Moss Hiatt. She lived her entire life in Surry County before her health began to decline in her early 90s. Elfrey was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her favorite topic of conversation was stories of her early years and her families' old home place. She was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served several times at the Temple in Atlanta, GA. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Jane Jackson of Mooresville, Roger and Sharon Jackson of Drexel, and Dwight and Frances Jackson of Advance; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Alison and Wayne Martin of Huntersville, Eugene and Shelia Jackson of Waxhaw, Maria and Chris Lowe of Mooresville, David and Kim Jackson of Lenoir, Elizabeth Jackson of Lexington Park, MD, Amy and Charles Crabbe of Boone, and Mollie and Steve Tilley of Advance; ten great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Colan and Mildred Hiatt of Mount Airy and Geneva Hiatt of Asheboro; a brother-in-law, Ray Goad of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. "Gene" Jackson; four sisters, Irene H. Brinkley, Ina H. Wyrick, Geneva H. Goad, and Alma H. Armstrong; and a brother, Leonard Hiatt. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 162 Temple Lane (off Old Highway 601), Mount Airy. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or the charity of the donor's choice. The Jackson family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Bermuda Commons and the hospice caregivers for the special love and compassion shown to Elfrey during her illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Jackson family.
