Elizabeth Yvonne Thomas Atkinson

Mrs. Elizabeth Yvonne "Von" Thomas Atkinson, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Atkinson was born April 18, 1938, in Surry County, to the late Murray Columbus and Ester Belle Riggs Thomas. Von was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother, and a wonderful friend. She was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her husband, Larry Atkinson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Charles Pruitt of Concord and Jodi and Jeremy Sims of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Ty, Owen, and Jack Pruitt, all of Concord, and McKinnley Sims of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Lib Thomas of Harrisburg and Linda Thomas of Newport News, VA; a special friend, Barbara Wilcox of Mount Airy; and her special caregivers, Flannery Heath and Donna Easter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Slaydon; and two brothers, Gray Thomas and Bill Thomas. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 11, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Blues Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
