Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis Beddall, 84, of Winston-Salem, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem. The daughter of Harold Berkley and Frances Brooks Lewis, Ebie was born October 3, 1922, and lived most of her life in Miami, FL. She graduated from Duke University in 1944, and then worked for the war effort in Washington, DC briefly before flying for Pan AM's Latin America division. She married James J. "Jack" Beddall, a fellow Miamian and airline pilot, in 1947. Jack died in 2003. Ebie will be remembered for her adventuresome spirit and love of plants, animals, music, theatre, books, movies, and especially travel. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Museum of Science, a Sunday school teacher, and involved in her children's scouting. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Cooper Adams of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James J. Beddall, Jr. and H. Lewis and Gay Beddall, all of Miami, FL; a granddaughter, Frances Brooks Adams of Mount Airy; and a sister, Dorothy Lewis Simpson of Mercer Island, WA. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Miami, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Salemtowne Retirement Community, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106, or the charity of the donor's choice.
