Mrs. Elizabeth Margaret "Betsy" Rotter Chamberlain, 84, of Lowgap, passed away Sunday morning, May 29, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Chamberlain was born June 22, 1926, in Sussex County, NJ, daughter of the late Anton Joseph and Paula Farnik Rotter. Betsy served in the Nurses Cadet Core many years ago. She worked as a registered nurse while living in New Jersey, California, and Massachusetts. She later worked as a postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Maine before moving to Mount Airy in 1993. After moving to Mount Airy, she worked as a cashier and greeter at Wal-Mart in Mount Airy Betsy and her late husband, Monte, were members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Donna Chamberlain of Austin, TX, Craig and Jill Chamberlain of Mount Airy, and Bruce and Lisa Chamberlain of Eddington, ME; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chamberlain was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence DeMont "Monte" Chamberlain; and a sister, Hermine "Minnie" Mendez. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Fonda Younger officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
