Born on Mother’s Day May 13, 1935, in Far Hills, NJ to Charles & Nellie Mae (Pickell) Bowker. Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Bowker Gaston was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Thomas Gaston; her son, Charles Kirkpatrick Gaston, and her siblings, Mary Anne Bowker Ryser, John Theodore Bowker, and Richard Charles Bowker. She is survived by her daughter, Sara Elizabeth Gaston, with whom she lived; sons Thomas Hugh Gaston (wife Mechele) of Stroudsburg, PA; Joseph Frederick Gaston (wife Anna) of Lakeland, FL, Scott Edward Gaston (wife Ester) of Hoschton, GA; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Betty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she loved mothering the many missionaries who came into her life. She worked as a housekeeper at Pocono Hospital in East Stroudsburg, PA for almost 25 years before retiring and moving with her daughter to California in 1996, where she shared her cheerful smile, artistic talents, and her delicious home cooking, especially her signature apple pies, with Sara’s students and colleagues in a variety of K-12 classrooms. Per Betty’s wishes, a private service will be held by her children at a later time and place. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Gaston family.
