Mrs. Ella Mae Goad Midkiff, 87, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009, at Springwood Care in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Midkiff was born May 11, 1921, in Surry County, to Charles Ernest and Willie Elsie Deatherage Goad. She retired as house mother for Baptist Children's Home. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank Midkiff of Mount Airy and Jim and Tamela Midkiff of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Penny Johnson and husband, James, Susan Gammons, James "J. Tam" Midkiff, Billy Midkiff and wife, Kim, and Lisa Schnakenburg and husband, Roy; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Stella and the Rev. Roland Simmons of Dallas; and a sister-in-law, Nelda Goad of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Midkiff was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Midkiff; and two brothers, Sammy Goad and Charles Goad. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Charles Goad, III and the Rev. Charles Tanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
