Ella Mae Puckett

Miss Ella Mae "Polly" Puckett, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Puckett was born December 25, 1922, in Surry County, to the late William Haston and Lena Davis Puckett. She retired from Perry Manufacturing and was a member of the Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary for 26 years, 1982 until 2009. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kaye Puckett of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Jonathan Puckett and fiancee, Maggie Venable, of Mount Airy and Ben Puckett of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Jeremiah Haston Puckett; and four sisters and a brother-in-law, Bettie Hill and Mary Lou Collins, both of Mount Airy, Barbara Cooke of King, and Frances and the Rev. Bill Watson of Ararat. In addition to her parents, Miss Puckett was preceded in death by three sisters, Maude Senter, Lizzie Jones, and Annie Bell Puckett; and six brothers, John Puckett, Claude "Bud" Puckett, Bill Puckett, Joe Puckett, Roger Puckett, and Jake Puckett. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 22, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Grover Jarrell and the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
