Ellen Elizabeth McKinney Gwyn

Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth McKinney Gwyn, age 86 of Mt. Airy, widow of Charles Edward Gwyn, Sr. passed away at her home Tuesday, February 3, 2009. Mrs. Gwyn was born in Surry County on October 25, 1922 to the late Jim and Ada Denny McKinney. She retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Mrs. Gwyn was a loving mother and grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Carpenter and a son, Charles Edward (Stobie) Gwyn, Jr. both of the home; a grandson, Wesley Carpenter and wife, Angela of Ennice, NC; great grandchildren, Qwenton and Charlie; sisters-in-law, Jenny Gwyn, Betty Gwyn and Callie Lothian and a special niece, Carlie Grubbs. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gwyn was preceded in death by four sisters, Gertrude McKinney, Connie McKinney, Inez Frye and Leon Dezern and three brothers, Hoyle, Wrenn and Moses McKinney. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Todd Byrd with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy NC 27030.
