Ellen Christian Hill Stanley

Mrs. Ellen Christian Hill Stanley, 84, of 5274 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Stanley was born February 8, 1927, in Stokes County, the daughter of the late Edward Verlin and Celia Humphries Hill. Ellen retired as a machine operator from Wilson Chicken Farms and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Carol Stanley of the home; a son-in-law, Stuart White of Westfield; two grandchildren, Celia Lee Bowman and her husband, Lyle Scott, of Westfield and Robert Terry Corns of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Marie Bowman, Ashley Morgan Bowman, Robert Tyler Corns, and Chaning Nicole Corns; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Grover Stanley of Mount Airy; a brother, Joe Hill of Dobson; a sister-in-law, Betty Hill of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Benjamin Stanley; two daughters, Jane White and Mary Dean Stanley; a sister, Mary Ruth Stanley; a twin brother, Edward Carson Hill; and two brothers, James Hill and Max Oliver Hill. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Keith Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Surry County Senior Services, the staff of Central Continuing Care, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care and support during Ellen's illness and since her passing.
