Ellis Oakley

Gunnery Sergeant Ellis Oakley "Buster" Allen, 61, of 134 East Crosswinds Court, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, March 19, 2010, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Allen was born May 18, 1948, in Surry County, to the late Homer Allen and Edith Bell Tilley Allen. He was employed as parts department manager at Snow's Garage. Mr. Allen retired from the United States Marine Corps after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Joan Hiatt Allen of the home; his children, Melissa McBride and her husband, Derick, of Mount Airy, Michael Allen and his partner, Frank Holder, of Clemmons, and Justin Allen and his wife, Angela, of Durham; three grandchildren, Austin McBride, Abby McBride, and Isabella Allen; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Leo Jones of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Elena Allen of Winston Salem; his stepfather, Shelby W. Hill of Winston-Salem; his special father-in-law, Junior L. Hiatt of Mount Airy; a special nephew and his wife, Brad and Brandy Jones of Mount Airy; a special niece, Sophia Allen of Winston-Salem; and a special great nephew, Brayden Jones of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory Allen. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 22, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Kate B.
