Mr. Elmer James Dunbar, 90, of 397 Airview Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, May 26, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Dunbar was born March 11, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Jesse Columbus and Josephine Jones Dunbar. He owned and operated the Dunbar Skating Rink and retired from Perry Manufacturing. Surviving are his wife, Jane Laughridge Dunbar of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and David Hawks of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stonie and Louise Dunbar, James Ray and Sandra Dunbar, and Rick and Vicki Dunbar, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Katrina and Mike Wall of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dunbar was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Slate Dunbar; and a daughter, Carole Dunbar Gentry. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and the Rev. Jonathan Barker officiating. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
