Elsie Newman Simpson

Ms. Elsie Cleo Newman Simpson, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Surry County, September 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Esther Wright Newman. Ms. Simpson was a registered nurse and retired from Northern Regional Hospital after many years of service. After her retirement she was involved with Surry Medical Ministries and was member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. Surviving are her three daughters, Penny Slate (Eddie), Amy Simpson, and Jill Simpson; grandchildren, Derek Slate, Drew Slate (Nichole), Courtney Fish Wright (Elvis), Abby Irby (Gabe), and Elly Bledsoe; great grandchildren, Kieran Slate, Avery Slate, Arden Slate, Salem Slate, Reece Slate, Emery Irby, Sarah Irby, Judah Irby, and Bowen Irby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Della Atkinson, Bertie Branch, and Dee King, brothers, Roger Newman, Cliff Newman, Paul Newman, Troy Newman, and Garnett Newman. There will be a private family service at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Surry Medical Ministries, Post Office Box 349, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is entrusted with the arrangements.
