Elva Iris Sigmon Foley

        Mrs. Elva Iris Sigmon Foley, age 88 of Bassett, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Franklin County on August 30, 1934, to the late Oscar Brown Sigmon and Erma Esther Sigmon.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Foley was preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Sigmon Grubb and Neva Sigmon Martin; two brothers, Oscar Wayne Sigmon and infant Woody Brown Sigmon; and the father of her children, Lester Foley.  She had retired from J.P. Stevens in Woolwine with 30 years of service.  She loved clothes, shoes, and working at her home, being in the sunshine, watching birds and enjoying her flowers.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother who lived for her children. 

        Mrs. Foley is survived by four children, Marilyn Lewis (Donald) of Bassett; Janet Edwards (Jerry) of Floyd, Lane Foley (Valerie) of Stuart, Melissa Foley of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Darrell Lewis (Lisa), Leah Young (Travis), D.J. Martin (Tabitha), Mark Lewis, Dustin Foley (Diana), Landon Foley (Shayna), Whitney Duncan (Jacob), Lindsey Cassell (Dylan); eight great-grandchildren, Maranda Hoyt (Will), Tanner Young, Peyton Lewis, Isabella Martin, Raelynn Duncan, Miles Foley, Callen Duncan and Sutton Foley; one step-grandson, Daniel Edwards (Taylor); two step-great-grandchildren, Tyler Gibson and Landry Edwards; two brothers, Guy W. Sigmon of Collinsville and Kyle W. Sigmon of Bassett; a sister, Ivy Zelma Pilson of Bassett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

        Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Rick Randall and Pastor Mike Varner officiating.  Burial will follow in Ross Harbour Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  If desired, memorials may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O.
