Emma Susan (Smith) Combs

Mrs. Emma Susan Smith Combs, age 82 of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Combs was born on September 30, 1939, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Carl and Flora Boyd Smith.  Emma was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Mrs. Combs was a faithful member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church while her health permitted.  Left to cherish her memories is her husband of 55 years, Oscar Isaiah Combs, a son Troy David Combs; one step grandson, Wyatt Holder; one sister, Betty Smith Watts; four brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence Smith and Mamie, Alvin Smith, William Junior “Bill” Smith, Jack Smith; one sister-in-law, Susie Smith; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Combs was preceded in the death by an infant son, Terry Lee Combs; and seven brothers, Melton Smith, Jesse “Jay” Smith, Don Smith, Swanson Smith, Hassell Smith, Calvin Smith, James Lee Smith; two sisters-in-law, Frances Smith, Elise Smith, and one brother-in-law, Turner Watts.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Fishel,  Acolyte Bruce Ayers, and Pastor Jason Johnson officiating.  Burial to follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Surry County Emergency Services, Surry Community Health, and Rehab and Forsyth Medical Center for the compassionate care giving to Mrs. Combs during her illness.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Combs family.
