Mrs. Emma Ree Hill Haynes, 88, of 823 Davis Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday April 20, 2011, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Haynes was born September 6, 1922, in Surry County, daughter of the late John Ellis and Mary Jane "Minnie" Southern Hill. Emma retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Terry Scott, Jackie and Neil Utt, and Vicki and Earnie Johnson, all of Mount Airy; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Haynes, Dickie and Gina Haynes, and Brenda Haynes, all of Mount Airy; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Faye Davis and Barbara Bandy, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas "Tom" Haynes, Sr.; a daughter, Judy Haynes Watson; three sons, Robert Dean "Bobby" Haynes, William Thomas "Tommy" Haynes, Jr., and Jimmy Ray Haynes, Sr.; a grandson, Dixie Albert "Jock" Haynes, III; two sisters, Mae Collins and Mertha Lee Haynes; and three brothers, John Hill, Taze Hill, and Jim Hill. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Woodrow Flippen and the Rev. Robbie Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Justin Haynes, 539 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Central Continuing Care, 1287 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of "Mama's girls and guys" at Central Continuing Care for the love and compassionate care given to them during this difficult time. Also, the family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the care given to their sweet mother.
