Mr. Emmett Ivan Woodle celebrated his homegoing on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at his home on the birthday of his beloved wife. He was born in Surry County on May 9, 1916 to the late Avery Martin and Della Creed Woodle. Mr. Woodle was retired from Florida Wire and Cable where he worked as a tool and dye designer. He was an avid gardener and a dedicated member and Deacon of Central View Missionary Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Surviving are his loving wife of seventy-two years, Launa Mae Cave Woodle of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and David Ashton of Dobson; two sons, Ivan W. Woodle of Statesville and David M. Woodle of Bakersville, CA; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth and Tommy Link of Denton and Virginia and Bennett Ross of Burlington; a brother, Roy Woodle of New Mexico. In addition to his parents, Mr. Woodle was preceded in death by two brothers, Carson and Howard Woodle and two sisters, Kate Gammons and Mavoleen Aldridge. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Central View Missionary Baptist Church where he will lie-in-state thirty minutes. Services will be conducted by Rev. Travis Chipman and Chaplin Todd Byrd and burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 6 to 9 pm. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and Surry Friends of Seniors for their love and compassionate care.
