Ernest Leonard Eaton

Mr. Ernest Leonard Eaton, 90, of 15 Johnson Creek Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, VA. Mr. Eaton was born January 29, 1917, in Patrick County, VA, son of the late William Tyler and Lavinia Ellen Marshall Eaton. Mr. Eaton was a devoted husband and a wonderful Christian example. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent in his earlier years. He was retired from Renfro Hosiery Corporation, a veteran of the United States Army, and an avid fisherman. Mr. Eaton enjoyed keeping a record of the weather and recording the amounts of rainfall. He also enjoyed gardening and working in his blueberries until the age of 88. Survivors include his wife, Hazel McMillian Eaton; and a sister, Josephine Bowman of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by four sisters, Tressie Midkiff, Dorothy Boyd, Polly Harold, and Thelma Edwards; and four brothers, John Garland Eaton, Arthur Eaton, Glen Eaton, and Clinard Eaton. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 26, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Oscar Hill, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
