Ernest Ray Jordan

Mr. Ernest Ray “The Showman” Jordan, 93, of Mount Airy, NC passed away Saturday morning, December 10, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital. He was born October 26, 1929, in Surry County to the late Rufus Clark and Bessie Johnson Jordan. Mr. Jordan was a longtime theater manager having started at the Earle in Mt. Airy. He later managed the Cinema in Mt. Airy and the Twin County Cinema in Galax, VA and was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. He graduated from Airy High School and was a member of the Lambsburg Christian Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward (Eddie) and Denise Welch Jordan, David and Linda Hawks; grandchildren and spouses, Brian and Tonya Hawks, Phil and Crystal Hawks, Neal and Jennifer Hawks, Brittany Turney, Jason and Angel Dorsett, Cindy and Jay Adams; several great grandchildren; a brother, James Jordan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his first wife Nina Mae Jordan in 1976 and his second wife of 40 years, Dorothy Callaway Hawks; and a son, Bernie Hawks. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 16, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Neal Hawks and Rev. Phil Hawks will conduct the service. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM Friday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the White Plains Friends Meeting Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Northern Skilled Care for the exceptional care and love shown to Mr. Jordan during his stay there.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Northern Hospital Skilled Care Unit Activities Fund, 830 Rockford Street, Mt.
