Ervin Elsworth Gentry

Mr. Ervin Elsworth Gentry, 85, formerly of Dobson, passed away Tuesday June 7, 2011, at Liberty Nursing and Rehab Center of Charlotte. He was born July 11, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Lacy Watson and Nettie Jane Dobson Gentry. Mr. Gentry was employed as a farmer and worked for Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during World War II, and a member of Field of Grace Baptist Church in Dobson. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Bertie Dodd Gentry of the home; three daughters and a son-in-law, Nettie ""Janie"" Gentry, Judy Gentry of Charlotte, and Lottie and Willie Williams of Durham; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin "JR" and Linda, Charlie and Angel, Kenneth and Kim, all of Charlotte; his beloved grandchildren, Kenny Gentry, Kelvin Singleton, Kayla Crawford, Ashley Hewlin, Brandie Drumwright, Whitney Williams, Kechele Gentry, Tia Gentry, Lacy Gentry, Maranda Oakes, and Anthony Oakes; nine great-grandchildren; an adored sister, Viola Hampton of Elkin; and two loving brothers and sisters-in-law, Abraham and Lula Gentry of Jonesville and Warren and Sarah Gentry of Bethany. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by several siblings. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 11, 2011, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with the Rev. Joey Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
