Estelle Hatcher Barnes

Mrs. Estelle Hatcher Barnes, age 86, of Monroe, Virginia, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on April 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas Wilton and Molly Hylton Hatcher. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, Atlas Lafayette Barnes; three brothers, Moir Hatcher, Irvin Hatcher, and Thomas Wilton Hatcher, Jr.; and a sister, Nancy Elizabeth Hatcher. She graduated from Virginia Baptist Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She was baptized at Smith River Church of the Brethren in Stuart, and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Monroe. Mrs. Barnes is survived by a daughter, Mary Barnes Brumbaugh of Monroe; a granddaughter, Susan Brumbaugh Partin, and her husband, Randall of Dunn, North Carolina; two great-granddaughters, Elisabeth Dale Brumbaugh Partin and Sophie Katherine Brumbaugh Partin of Dunn, North Carolina; and three sisters, Eleanor Hatcher Turner, Roberta Hatcher Adams and Alberta Hatcher Fain, all of Stuart. Funeral services for Mrs. Barnes will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Ira Smith, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. A memorial service will be held at a future date at Bethany United Methodist Church in Monroe.
