Mrs. Ethel Mae Combs Hawks Cave, 98, of Lowgap, passed away on Friday night, May 15, 2020 at the Joan and Howard Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Carroll County on October 17, 1921 to the late William and Mattie Payne Combs. She was a lifelong member of Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Cana. She was married to her first husband for over 60 years and together they raised six children and two grandchildren. She was also an awesome babysitter for most of the other grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memories are daughters and son-in-law, Opal Edwards, Faye and Bill Spencer; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Frances Hawks, Wavern Hawks; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cave was preceded in death by her first husband William Yancy Hawks, second husband, Charles Clinton Cave; daughters, Ruby Furn Hawks Davis, Delta Orene Hawks, grandchildren, Randy Hawks, Victor Lee Edwards and Adam Hawks as well as three great-grandchildren and four brothers. Due to the limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a private graveside service will be held at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church
