Mrs. Ethel McCann Folger, 88, widow of Mr. Charles Lee Folger, Sr., of Dobson, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Alleghany County on January 24, 1918 to the late James Coy and Jensie Ava Thompson McCann. Mrs. Folger was a retired school teacher from the Surry County School System and a devoted member of Dobson United Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters and a son: Jane Folger of Tarzana, Ca., Sarah Hauser of Mt. Airy, Mary Summerlin of Mt. Airy, Susan Folger of Dobson and Charles Lee Folger Jr. of Stephens City, Va.; a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law: Mike Hauser and Ruth Folger; six grandchildren: Beth Hauser, Jessica Hauser, Amanda Gainey, Charlie Summerlin, Emily Folger and Laura Folger; two great-grandchildren: Alexander Gainey and Katrina Gainey; two sisters-in-law: Nancy McCann of Dobson and Lois Wallace of St. Petersburg, Fl. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Folger was preceded in death by three brothers: Burton McCann, Guy McCann and Howard McCann. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday at Dobson United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy Earley officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm on Friday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dobson United Methodist Church, 204 South Main Street, Dobson, NC 27017.
