Mrs. Ethel Virginia Holyfield Hamlin, 85, widow of Dillard Wiley Hamlin, formerly of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Elkin Healthcare. She was born May 2, 1925, in Surry County, to the late Henry Calvin and Mary Ella Davis Holyfield. Mrs. Hamlin was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Survivors include a devoted son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Holly Abrams Hamlin of Dobson; a sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Roger Humphries of Burlington; two step-granddaughters, Sashi Toma and Ashley Gentry; and three step-great-granddaughters, Natalie, Audrey and Kadin. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hamlin was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Anthony, Posie McMillian, Empress Key, and Betty Jo Gibson; and six brothers, Porter, Webb, Henry Arvil, Radford, Calvin and Dan Holyfield. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Liberty Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Tucker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made Liberty Baptist Church, 172 Liberty Church Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
