Mrs. Ethel Gardner Hartman, 89, of 2102 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2010, in Hoschton, GA. Mrs. Hartman was born January 2, 1921, in Davidson County, daughter of the late John and Carrie Breedlove Gardner. Ethel was a homemaker and a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hartman-Lord of Grayson, GA; five grandchildren and their spouses, Chad Cockerham of Gainesville, TX, Noel McCullough of Marietta, GA, Michelle Tuggle of Canton, GA, Brandi and Troy Willard of Hoschton, GA, and Nichole and Adam Rogers of Grayson, GA; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Gardner Lookabill of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hartman was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Robert James "R.J." Hartman; a daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Hartman; a son, Donald Levoid Hartman; and five brothers. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tim Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flippin Memorial Baptist Church, c/o Fannie Burkhart, 2337 McBride Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
