Ethel Octavia Simmons

Mrs. Ethel Octavia Simmons, age 82 of Mt. Airy passed away at her home Friday, September 28, 2007. Mrs. Simmons was born in Surry County May 18, 1925 to the late John Curtis and Gracie Edna McCraw Bond. She worked at Barber Hosiery, was a homemaker and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs. Simmons is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tommy Lambert, Becky and Ricky York and Candace Ring, all of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters -in-law Gerritt and Leni Simmons of LaGrange, TX, L. J. and Marie Simmons of Mt. Airy and Mike and Frankie Simmons of Ararat, NC; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Margie Jessup of Westfield and Carol Brannock of Cary, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Leon John Simmons; sisters, Edna Coalson, Helen Phipps, Nellie Bowman and three infant brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, October 1, 2007 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church by Dr. James Joseph, Rev. Danny Culler and Rev. Mitchell Pruitt. Her body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
