Mrs. Eva Gentry Atkinson, 89, of 218 Fred Atkinson Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, April 27, 2009, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Atkinson was born October 12, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Rennie and Jane Nixon Gentry. She was a homemaker and a member of the Primitive Baptist faith. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lavon and Don Thompson and June Martin, all of Mount Airy, and Kay and Lon Williford of Charlotte; a son and daughter-in-law, Ashburn and Anna Atkinson of Paintsville, KY; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Sherri Thompson, Cathy and Tim Howlett, Julie and Jeff Smith, Stephanie and Mark Schmitt; Andy and Tonya Martin, Martin and Pat Atkinson, Mitchell and Denise Atkinson, Kenneth and Darlene Atkinson, and Tripp Williford; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Gentry Goings of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her husband, William Fred Atkinson; and a son-in-law, Grant Martin. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
