Eva Sue Cockerham Bell

Mrs. Eva Sue Cockerham Bell, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, May 29, 2022, at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin.  Mrs. Bell was born October 23, 1938, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Andy Coy and Ruby Lela Holder Cockerham.  Eva retired from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service.  She was a member of Ivy Green Baptist Church and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church faithfully until her health declined.  She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Janet Jarrell of Mount Airy; three stepdaughters, Teresa Bell King of Mount Airy, Darlene Bell of Clermont, FL, and Sandra Perdieu and her husband, Tyrone, of Alexandria, TN; two grandsons, Joshua Jarrell and his wife, Tenielle, and Justin Jarrell, all of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, William Jarrell, Jansen Jarrell, and Enzley Jarrell, all of Mount Airy; four stepgrandchildren; twelve great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margaret Cockerham of Lowgap and Kathy and Wayne Ashburn of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Andy Mose and Linda Cockerham of Dobson and Haley C. Cockerham of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Amanda Draughn.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward “Ed” Bell; a sister, Mamie Cockerham Snow; two brothers, Maynard Wayne Cockerham and Buddy Carlie Cockerham; and a special cousin, Frances Gammons.  The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chad Hooker and the Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” Fund at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 700 Johnson Ridge Road, Elkin, NC  28621.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
