Mrs. Eva Mae McCreary Hooker Collins, 88, of 359 Woodruff Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born September 18, 1920, in Surry County, to the late Thomas and Ada Cooke McCreary. She was a homemaker and retired from Adams Millis. Mrs. Collins was a member of Holy Cross Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Lester Collins of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Hazel and Ewuel Hodges and Brenda Cecil, all of Mount Airy; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Dara and Tim Parsons of Mount Airy and Leslie and John Brett of Greenbackville, VA; two stepsons and their spouses, Terry Collins and Lester Collins, Jr. and Linda, all of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; thirteen great-stepgrandchildren; a special niece, Louise Senter; and special pet, Tinkerbell. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her first husband, George Alex Hooker; a daughter, Joyce Holt; a granddaughter, Vicky Hall; four sisters; and seven brothers. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Lonnie Gunter and the Rev. Butch Holder, and burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
