Eva Martin

Mrs. Eva Mae Matthews Martin, 94, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Saturday, May 8, 2021.  She was born July 5, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Roy and Betty Jane Thomas Matthews.  Eva was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she loved her family fiercely.  Born on July 5th, she was a true firecracker.  She enjoyed living across the United States as a young military family.  She was the life of the party throughout her life, and she never looked a day over 65 years old.  She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dennis Johnson of Mount Airy, Linda and Karl Gant of Lake Park, GA, and Donna and Edward Steve Patterson of Columbia, SC; a son, William “Bill” Martin of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Allen and Hope Noah of Mount Airy, Caryann and Kevin Williams of Rural Hall, Eric and Angela Gant of Cumming, GA, Angela and Josh Scholl of Charlotte, Brian Gant of Lake Park, GA, Charles Gant of Macon, GA, and Crystal Torres of Columbia, SC; eleven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, William Osler Martin, retired United States Air Force; three sisters, Marydale Taylor, Alma Matthews, and Patricia Hester; and two brothers, Luther Matthews and Charlie Matthews.  A celebration of her life will be held Friday, May 14, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
