Evelyn Hughes

        Mrs. Evelyn Morse Hughes, age 94 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.  She was born in Patrick County on July 6, 1924 to the late Jesse R. Morse and Beatrice Lawson Morse.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two husbands, Welborn P. Oakley and Dewey Herbert Hughes; a sister, Rachel Sheppard; sister-in-law, Frances Morse; and four brothers-in-law, Ervin Oakley, Prescot Sheppard, Junior McDowell, and Everette Hairston.  Mrs. Hughes was a member of Five Forks Wesleyan Church and volunteered at the Dry Pond Community Building.  She will be remembered for her love of cooking, being a loving person, and how she was devoted to her family.

        Mrs. Hughes is survived by two sons, Robert W. Oakley and wife,  Linda Oakley of Rural Hall, NC and Roger Wayne Oakley and  wife, Patsy of Stuart, VA; two grandchildren, Darren Oakley and wife, Emily and Adrianne Twyman and husband, Kevin; two step-granddaughters, Devon Doherty and Jillian Wray; three great-grandchildren, one brother, Odell Morse of Stuart, VA; one sister, Nadine Ellis and husband, Everette of Ripple Meade, VA; three sisters-in-law, Doris Oakley of King, NC, Ruth McDowell of Boonesville, NC and Annie Hairston of Saxapahaw, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

        Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Dave Henry and Shaun Draughn officiating.  Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Patrick County Chapter, P.O.
