Evelyn Alexander Carothers Niten

Mrs. Evelyn Alexander Carothers Niten, 84, of 1829 North Quintana Street, Arlington, VA, passed away Friday morning, April 3, 2009, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. Mrs. Niten was born May 7, 1924, in Fort Mill, SC, the daughter of the late Randolph and Lily Moore Erwin Carothers. She retired as an administrative assistant from the Arlington County School Board. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Lester Niten, Sr. of the home; a son, James Lester "Jimmy" Niten, Jr. of Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Niten was preceded in death by a sister, Clarolene "Sue" Conroy, BSN; and three brothers, Dr. Randolph Carothers, General Thomas Frank Carothers, and Lee Carothers. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Barry Clement officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnard Family Cemetery in Ararat, VA. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
