Mr. F. Reece Bowers, 87, of State Road, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday March 1, 2008. He was born in Surry County on March 26, 1920 to the late John Sanford and Martha Ida Mayes Bowers and was a faithful member of Mountain Park Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Reeceanna B. and Johnny G. Hanes of State Road; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy M. and Susan S. Bowers of Mcleansville; two grandsons, John B. Hanes of Winston-Salem and Alan P. Bowers of Greensboro; two sisters, Pearl White of Dobson and Ila Layell of State Road; several nieces and nephews and his many "Wal-Mart Friends". In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowers was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years Thetis Moser Bowers, who departed this life in 2000; four brothers, Dewitt Bowers, James Bowers, Wheeler Bowers and Roy Bowers and two sisters, Mamie Bowers and Minnie Watson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Mountain Park Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Childs officiating and burial to follow in Mountain Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:00 pm until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care of Elkin 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Surry Friends of Seniors 1218 State Street, Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care of Elkin and to Surry Friends of Seniors for the compassionate care given to Mr. Bowers during his declining health. Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson is serving the Bowers family.
