Fannie Lee Hale Sutphin

Mrs. Fannie Lee Hale Sutphin, age 82 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, August 25, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Sutphin was born in Surry County, January 7, 1926 to the late Gurney and Carrie Gwyn Hale. Until her decline in health she was an active member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church and retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County. Our mother was a true southern lady, gracious and hospitable. The minute you walked through the door you became part of her family. She loved Christmas, new grand babies and her extended family. Surviving are five daughters, Mary Lynn Farmer, Frances Pratt, Susan Sutphin, Nancy Hollingsworth, adopted daughter, Adena Moore and one son, John Sutphin; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutphin was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Sidney Sutphin; two sisters, Stella Bartley and Hazel Bullin and by two brothers, Tom Hale and little Charley Hale. We would like to extend our special thanks to our mother's niece, Polly Rogers, for being mama's best friend. We thank all of you for being there for us during this time. The family would like to give a very special thanks to the staff of Central Continuing Care of Mt. Airy and also Northern Hospital of Surry County for all the loving care given to our dear mother. Funeral services will be held at 3:30, Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Mary Miller and Rev. Will Randolph. Burial will follow in Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
