Mrs. Fay Michael Childress, 73, Mount Airy, devoted wife of Fred Howard Childress, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 21, 1937, to the late Early Ottis and Pansy Mae Hanes Michael. Mrs. Childress was a homemaker and attended Boones Hill Holiness Church. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 56 years, Fred Howard Childress; a daughter and son-in-law, Carlene and Otto Hawks of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Beckie Childress of Dobson; eleven grandchildren, David Childress, Jr., Wesley Hawks, Michelle Hawks Rogers, Jason Childress, Dennis Hawks, Jonathan Hawks, Cody Childress, Cory Childress, Julie Hawks, Anthony Childress, and Travis Childress; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Emma and Hardin Bullin and Mary Ruth and Raymond Clark; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Benny and Judy Michael and Charles and Shirley Michael. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Wall and Stella Michael; and a brother, Ottis Michael. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and Brother Tommy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, where her body will remain until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson NC 27017.
