Mrs. Fay Ila Brintle Hayes, age 89 of Hattiesburg, MS. formerly of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Hattiesburg. Mrs. Hayes, the youngest of ten children born to William Yancey and Armittie Rachel Brintle, was born January 4, 1919. Following her graduation from White Plains High School at the age of fifteen and Mount Airy High School at the age of seventeen, she received her registered nursing degree from the University of Virginia. In 1939 she earned the only gold seal on the Virginia State Nursing exam. She married Rev. Kenneth M. Hayes in 1939 and was the mother of three children. During her life she was a homemaker, pastor's wife, and worked for many years at the Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Hayes is survived by two children, Martha Ann Kittrell and husband Bill of Hattiesburg, MS and David Kenneth Hayes and wife Mindy of Catonsville, MD; four grandchildren, Rev. Jonathan David Kittrell and wife Leigh Anne of Hattiesburg, MS; Sarah Caroline Ramirez Cross and husband Kevin of Bay St. Louis, MS; Rachel Jennifer Hayes Heletz and husband Dr. Ido of Philadelphia, PA; and Lena Ruth Hayes of Catonsville, MD; three great grandchildren, Madison Leigh Kittrell and Ann Marie Kittrell both of Hattiesburg, MS; and Caroline Cross of Bay St. Louis, MS. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Charles Lowry of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Kenneth M. Hayes; a daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Ruth Hayes Ramirez and Richard Edward Ramirez. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters, Charles Bynum Brintle, William Henry Brintle, Jacob Spencer Brintle, Mary Jennie Rachel Brintle Beamer, John Jerry Brintle, Roy Benton Brintle, Martha Susan Brintle Nichols, Ruth Elizabeth Brintle Lowry, and Minnie Lee Brintle Wortman. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at White Plains Friends Church. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International or to the charity of the donor's choice. Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS and Moody Funeral Home are serving the Hayes family.
