Fay Johnson Prather

Mrs. Fay Johnson Prather, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Prather was born April 22, 1919, in Surry County, to J. Brady and Christine Nichols Johnson. She was a loving homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son and two daughters-in-law, John W.E. Prather, Jr. and Terry Prather of Kannapolis and Barbara Simmons of Mount Airy; a grandchild, David Simmons of Richmond, VA; sisters and a brother-in-law, Benny and Clinton Moseley and Marian York, all of Mount Airy, and Rachel Barr of King; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Johnson of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Prather was preceded in death by her husband, John W.E. Prather, Sr.; a son, Reid Alton Simmons, Sr.; and a grandson, Reid Alton Simmons, Jr.; and a brother, Carroll Johnson. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 25, 2010, at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. John Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
