Mrs. Faye Armstrong Terrell, 81, of Ararat, died Thursday, January 4, 2024. Faye was born May 28, 1942, in Surry County, the daughter of James Laymon and Eva Ann Key Armstrong. On September 24, 1960, she married Donald Lee Terrell. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2023, shortly before Don’s death. Faye was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain her entire life and served 62 years in the music ministry as the church pianist, organist, and choir director. She played the piano at more than 100 weddings. She worked for decades in the Vehicle and License Plate Renewal Office in Mount Airy. She loved painting and gave many of her creations to family and friends. She was an avid reader who shared books with a dozen friends in a personalized lending library. In addition to her husband, Faye was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Phillip (wife Judi) and Dewey Armstrong. Survivors include a son, Donald Lee “Donny” Terrell, Jr. (wife Diana) of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Sonya Braun (husband Kevin) of Stone Mountain, GA; two sisters, Frances Cook (husband Glenn) of Mount Airy and Mary Ellen Wells (husband Byron) of Bunn; five grandchildren, Dalton Terrell (wife Molly), of Vienna, VA, Cody Braun (wife Tate), of Marietta, GA, Casey Braun (wife Hayden), of Atlanta, GA, Dash Terrell, of Oak Ridge; and Tori Bissram of Chapel Hill; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Terrell, Patrick Terrell, and Goldie Braun; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A visitation will be held Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Donations may be made to the Simmons Grove WMU. Guests may join the choir for the funeral to honor Faye’s music ministry at 3:00 PM on Monday. Faye had a special bond with her two sisters, Frances and Mary Ellen. She enjoyed cooking her famous family recipes. She never missed an opportunity to bake a chocolate pie or batch of biscuits for her grandkids. Faye was a cancer survivor. Donald and Faye had round-the-clock caregivers this past year. The family appreciates how all these ladies made it possible for them to stay in their home despite their health: Annette, Michelle, Pam, Linda, Maxine, Heather, Leslie, and Jamie. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
