Florence Marie Hodgin Martin

Mrs. Florence Marie Hodgin Martin, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday night, September 26, 2016, at Beacon Place in Greensboro. Mrs. Martin was born June 15, 1921, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of the late Robert Marshall and Bertha Mae Turner Hodgin. Florence retired as a floral designer from Airmont Florist and was a member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Karen Martin of Browns Summit; her grandchildren, David and Tina Gilliam and Bobby and Rebecca Martin, all of Greensboro; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, William Roscoe Martin, Sr.; a daughter, Jeanette Martin Gilliam; a sister, Gladys Martin Neal; and three brothers, Robert Hodgin, Billy Hodgin, and M.L. Hodgin. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Barnette officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockford Street United Methodist Church, 520 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
