Mrs. Flossie Irene Hall Graves Tilley, 82, of 178 Englewood Trail, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, January 25, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Tilley was born December 14, 1927, in Surry County, daughter of the late Willis B. and Velna Bennett Hall. Flossie worked at Workmen's Federal Savings and Loan for many years and later at Surrey Bank and Trust. She was a great animal lover and raised horses. Flossie loved music and was the pianist at several churches in the area. Mrs. Tilley was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church. She is survived by her husband, Loyd Ernest Tilley of the home; a son, Tony Epperson of Mount Airy; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Ginny and Randy Smith of Deep Run and Jo Anne and Billy Ray Hiatt of Mount Airy; two stepsons and their spouses, Charles and Cindy Graves of East Berlin, PA, and Larry and Cindy Johnson of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Alicia Epperson; ten stepgrandchildren, Lane Smith, Lindsay Smith, Leigh Smith, Kim Shelton, Chris Hiatt, Chaz Graves, Hope Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Dillon Johnson, and Maddox Johnson; five great-stepgrandchildren, Will Shelton, Addie Shelton, Jacob Hiatt, Scarlett Hiatt, and Rachel Hiatt; a sister, Willie Mae "Tini" Hall of Mount Airy; and a niece, Mary Frances Love Frye of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by a husband, Joe Graves; a stepson, David Graves; and two sisters, Florence Inman and Vera Love. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Mount Bethel Moravian Church, with the Rev. Charles Fishel and Mr. Bruce Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Building Fund, c/o Jeff Ayers, 79 County Line Road, Cana, VA 24317.
