Flynn Downing "Junior" Allen, Jr.

Mr. Flynn Downing Allen, Jr., age 84, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Sunday April 20, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on April 8, 1941, in Surry County to the late Flynn Allen Sr and the late Emily Southern Allen. Mr. Flynn retired from Vulcan Materials in Winston-Salem as a mechanic after many years of service and was the co-owner of Sunshine Puppets. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will surely be missed by all who knew him. Surviving Mr. Allen is daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Minor and Timothy; son, Steve Allen and partner Tina Sawyers Shelton; grandchildren, Stephanie Allen and fiancé Richard Coburn, Sarah Sawyers, Tyler Minor and Ashlee, Mae Lynn Minor; great-grandchildren, Danielle Coburn, Elizabeth Coburn, Madelyn Coburn, Annabelle Coburn, and Silas Minor; sister, Wanda Boyles and Don; brothers and sisters-in-law, AG Southern, Billy Gray Allen and Wanda; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy Pell and Hurley, Howard “Pokie” Chamberlin; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Allen; great-grandson, Robert Coburn; sisters, Elaine Edwards, Fannie Mae Hiatt, Virginia Mae Chamberlin, baby sister Emma Allen, sister-in-law, Ellen Southern. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Luke Pyles officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Allen family.
