Mrs. Foye Bell Cook Tilley, 92, of Kernersville, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Tilley was born June 16, 1918, in Carroll County, VA, to Columbus Walter and Mary Belle Carpenter Cook. She was such a loving influence to all her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, R. Wilburn Tilley, Jr. and Ava Tilley of Kernersville and Larry Walter Tilley of Kernersville; a grandson and his wife, Brandon and Nichole Tilley of Taylorsville; a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Tilley; half-sisters, Mozelle Cook of Midlothian, VA, Willie Mae Cook of Benson, Erma C. Ricker, Ada C. Clark (Andy), Cassie C. Tomlin (Walter), and Faye C. Nichols (Jim), all of Powhatan, VA; half-brothers, Allen Cook (Carol), Monroe Cook (Norma), Ellis Cook (Barbara), Elmore Cook (Tammy), Lewis Cook (Bertha), and Douglas Cook (Jean), all of Powhatan, VA, Roger Cook (June), of Amelia, VA; John Cook (Mary) of Apopka, FL, and Ray Cook (Vickie) of Richmond, VA; and special nieces with whom she was raised more as a sister, Willie Poore and Virginia Roberts. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wilburn Tilley, Sr.; her stepmother, Ethel Cook; sisters, Jennie C. Nichols, Annie C. Jones, Essie C. Sumner, Mary Ellen C. Sumner, and Grace C. Edwards and husband Eli, better known as Ma Grace and Papa Eli, who loved and raised Mrs. Tilley as one of their own children; and brothers, Troy Hosten Cook and Roy Laymon Cook; and half-brothers, Walter Columbus Cook and Clarence Cook. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jerry Pardue and Mike Culler, a special family friend, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Willie and Lester Poore, 712 Lynn Avenue, Mount Airy.
