Mrs. Frances Hutchens Cooke, 90, of 1223 West Northwood Street, Greensboro, passed away Monday night, August 8, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Cooke was born December 3, 1920, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Isaac Vestal Hutchens and Lucy Fleming Hutchens Snow. Frances was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by three sons, Dwight Kenneth Cooke, Jr. of Greensboro, Douglas Hamilton (Linda) Cooke of Pilot Mountain, and Philip Edwin (Joyce) Cooke of Tacoma, WA; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two brothers, Robert L. Hutchens of Martinsville, VA, and Thomas H. "Buddy" Hutchens of Ladson, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooke was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Kenneth Cooke, Sr.; a daughter, Evelyn Sue Cooke; a sister, Betty Hutchens Hodges; and three brothers, Ray F. Hutchens, Sandy Vestal Hutchens, and Wayne W. Hutchens. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at 1:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Doug Ramsey officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
