Mrs. Frances Hardy Harris, 89, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. Mrs. Harris was born June 24, 1917, in Surry County, to the late James Ethard and Annie Ausburne Hardy. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 23 in Pilot Mountain. During her membership to the chapter, she served in various capacities, including Worthy Matron. She is survived by a son, Robert C. Harris, Jr. of Charlotte; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Mae H. Turpin, Billie H. Bradley, Barbara H. Lane, and Frieda H. and Carroll Chauncey, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Jack G. Hardy of Mount Airy; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. "Bob" Harris; a son, James Phillip Harris; an infant son, Jerry Wayne Harris; an infant daughter, Martha Ann Harris; a grandson, Robert Eugene Harris; a sister, Mildred H. Schmitz; and a brother, Wade Melvin Hardy. A graveside service will be held Monday, June 18, 2007, at 1:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd E. Byrd and Eastern Star rites will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 23. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Barbara H. Lane, 336 Marion Street, Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
