Mrs. Frances Southern Hawks, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday May 22, 2020, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born in Surry County on July 19, 1947, to the late Rufus B and Ida “Edna” Nixon Southern. Mrs. Hawks retired from Cross Creek Apparel. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Scott Wright, Melissa Hawks and companion Roddy Fletcher, Angie and Alan Richard; a son, Clifford Lee Hawks; grandchildren, Mary “Beth” Hubbard, James “Quinton” Hubbard, Devin Wright, and Paulette Wright; a great grandchild, Valerie Huffman; a sister and brother-in-law, Dora “Vernell” and Billy Sykes; brother and sister-in-law, Kyle and Cathy Southern; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Southern, and an infant brother, Lester Southern. Being mindful of social distancing rules put in place by the governor a graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery with Mr. Devin Rothrock officiating.
