Mrs. Frances Stevens Morrison, 86, of 1302 East Pine Street, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, February 19, 2011, at Golden Living Center. Mrs. Morrison was born February 6, 1925, in Surry County, daughter of the late Willie Pete and Julia Jane Brady Stevens. She was a homemaker and a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Yvonne M. Cottrell of Moyock and Kimberly M. and James Randy Hicks of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy Leon and Barbara Morrison of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and their spouses, Roy Leon Morrison, Jr. and Lizette Morrison of Norfolk, VA, and Wayne Jack Cottrell, II and Mandee Cottrell of Wake Forest; three great-grandchildren, Jaycee Quinn Cottrell of Wake Forest, and Natasha Morrison and Abrielle Morrison, both of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Margaret York of Smithfield, VA; and a sister-in-law, Lola Childress of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morrison was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Morrison; a son, Willie Pete Morrison; a son-in-law, Wayne J. Cottrell; and a brother, Leo Childress. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 21, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. There will not be a formal visitation prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 587, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Morrison family.
