Mrs. Frances Kay Simmons Nichols, 71, of 110 Hazelnut Court, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Nichols was born December 2, 1937, in Elberton, GA, the daughter of the late Samuel Day and Helen Worrell Simmons. She retired from Homeway Furniture Inc. and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Kay enjoyed following the sports and activities of her three grandchildren and cooking for her family. She was a very thoughtful and caring person to all of her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, LeAnn and Jerry Coram of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, J.B. Coram, Julius Coram, and Anna Kay Coram, all of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dale Myers of Pfafftown; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Conrad "Bud" Simmons and Stanton Simmons, both of King, David and Mary Simmons of Kernersville, and Hazel Simmons of Mount Airy; a special niece, Kim Simmons of Mount Airy; several other nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Mildred Miller and Bonnie Riggs, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Nichols; a daughter, Donna Kay Nichols; a brother, Bob Simmons; and a sister-in-law, Erma Simmons. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 9, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Monday from 1:00 until time to depart for the cemetery for the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund, 124 Myers Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to the COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Avenue, Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133.
